The doctoral residency exists to teach students about the journey to becoming doctorates. Part of that goal is to provide an opportunity to network with faculty and other students.

Do I need a doctorate? What type of coursework will there be? How enjoyable will it be to write a dissertation? These were just some of the questions that I’ve been asking myself over and over again since I attained my masters degree.

To stay focused on my studies, I will limit the use of social media

How will I “show up” every day and for each interaction? My goal is to show up looking and acting like a leader, with the attitude and mindset of a charismatic and effective leader.

His words were a punch in the gut. I have always been proud of the fact that I have multiple jobs, and extracurriculars – you name it, going on at the same time. And, I am often having conversations with myself (yes, I do that) about NOT feeling like I am great at any of them! I sing in church, but I’m not the best singer. I used to dance, but I wasn’t the best dancer – I could get by.

It can be difficult to limit what you receive now in order to be able to receive something bigger and better in the future. However, a conscious decision to delay gratification can lead to greater levels of willpower and help you achieve greater success.

I like to think of habit stacking as creating a trigger to execute a second task or behavior.  If I recite something I am grateful for each night when I sit down for dinner, I am stacking a new habit on an existing one that I have already formed.
